About Me
My name is Kaila, and creation is the driving force of who I am.
My skill set is diverse - I have over 7 years' experience as a Mass Communication Specialist in the United States Navy producing written, photographic, and video documentation of history to be preserved and referenced for years to come. My job has brought me from the shores of Yokosuka, Japan, to the base of Mount Vesuvius in Italy, to hovering over 1,000 feet in a helicopter while directing a fleet of multi-nation Naval assets to get into position for the perfect photograph.
Working with video is my passion.
I believe it is the most powerful medium for storytelling, as the creative options are limitless. With my combination of hands-on video experience and military training, I can tackle any position behind, in front, or beyond the lens of a camera.
My Experience
My experience in industry-standard software has been evolving for 10+ years, with certifications in Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop.
While in the military, I served as the photojournalism, video and print workcenter supervisor aboard USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) from March 2017 - December 2020 along with specialising in aerial media shot from MH-60S and MH-60R helicopters. Notable media outlets featuring my work include the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Military Times.
From January 2021 - March 2023, I served as a public affairs specialist assigned to U.S. Naval Forces Europe and Africa, while working alongside our social media coordinator developing social media campaigns that reached 2,000,000+ people via Facebook and Instagram.
